The phrase the “The future is now” is often attributed to former Washington Redskins Football coach, George Allen, who used it to motivate players and Redskins fans in the early 1970’s. The reality is that the phrase was first used in the title of a 1955 short film entitled “The Future is Now”. The movie featured an inside look at a high-profile government research lab to showcase future products such as small computers, computerized assembly lines, nuclear and solar powered energy sources, video telephones, instant movies, microwaved foods, etc.  The film created a bit of a stir as most people had previously believed that these types of things were pure science fiction or wouldn’t be possible for at least 100 years, if at all.
As we look to the future of healthcare, rapid changes in use of technology, artificial intelligence and even consumer demand and expectations have created an environment where “The Future is Now.” At this Roundtable we will explore and hear from leading experts about how things like AI, digitalization and big data are changing the way healthcare is delivered today. We will also hear about how some organizations are changing the way they do business today to address social determinants and the health of their communities to create a healthier future for their communities. And, we will hear from a noted author and expert on leadership about how our organizations will need to adapt organizational cultures and leadership styles to ensure current and future success. The formal presentations and informal networking among participants at this Roundtable will hopefully empower each participant to begin to evaluate their own answer to the question, “The future is now…. will we thrive or barely survive?”
